That depends on how much you use! But, as well as being frugal with water you should try to refill every day. A list of water points can be found here.

Will I need to arrange for the toilets to be pumped out during my hire?

The toilet tanks will normally be okay for 3 or 4 days; any longer and you will need to arrange a pump-out. Toilets will last longer if you:

  • always try to use shore facilities whenever they are available (at pubs, public facilities etc)
  • don't flush more water than is necessary
A list of pump-out facilities on the Rivers Lee and Stort can be found here.

We have a dedicated emergency telephone number which you can call in the event of any problems. We also now subscribe to River Canal Rescue who operate a mechanical breakdown service. Details of emergency procedures can be found on board.

What side of the river do I drive on?

The International rule of the waterways is that you pass oncoming boats on the right (just like driving in mainland Europe).

How many people can I bring?

For Day Trips all of our boats are licenced to carry a maximum of 12 passengers. That means your party can be up to 12 people, including children, carers, support workers etc. Our Skippers DO NOT COUNT in this number. For residential use our boats are licenced for up to 12 people on board (but for your comfort you may find that it's best to limit the boat to even fewer people).

Top

Do I need a lifejacket?

No. But if you wish to wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid all our boats carry a full complement of junior buoyancy aids and adult life jackets. Infant sized lifejackets or especially large buoyancy aids can be supplied on request.

Can I bring my dog (or other pet)?

Pets are only permitted on our boats by written consent. The pet's keeper is responsible for ensuring good behaviour, and for any cleaning or damage caused. Of course, guide dogs are especially welcome.
